General Orientation & Protective Behaviors

Welcome to the Special Olympics Oregon volunteer family. You are taking a key step in the process of becoming an approved Class A volunteer. In order to work with our athletes or to volunteer in a role of leadership, the following steps are required:

1.) Complete and submit a Volunteer Application form (which includes a criminal background check). This form is available from your county’s Local Program Coordinator or by contacting our Volunteer Director: ltabada@soor.org

2.) View the General Orientation slide show (on our website), complete and submit the quick quiz at the end of the presentation.

3.) View the Protective Behaviors slide show (link available on our website), complete and submit the quick quiz at the end of the presentation.

General Orientation: When you are ready to begin the General Orientation, click the link at the bottom of this page. The presentation will appear in a new window and look like this:

You will see an Outline on the left, which may be turned off by clicking the “Outline” button at the bottom left of the window. There are navigation arrows at the bottom-center of the window. Or, you can begin a full screen slide show by clicking the “Slide Show” button on the bottom right.

At the end of the presentation, there will be a button to click that takes you to the quiz. Once complete, click “submit” and your quiz will automatically be sent to Special Olympics Oregon.

Protective Behaviors: Once you have completed the General Orientation quiz, you may proceed to the Protective Behaviors presentation. After hitting the “submit” button for your General Orientation quiz, you’ll be taken back to a screen that provides you with a link for the Protective Behaviors session. After viewing the Protective Behaviors session, take the quiz and submit it. We will automatically be notified that you have completed this requirement.

On behalf of the athletes in Special Olympics Oregon, thank you for your interest and dedication to becoming a Class A volunteer.
