Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge is a wild and crazy opportunity to support Special Olympics Oregon athletes by fundraising and plunging into icy Oregon waters in the height of winter.  This is Special Olympics Oregon’s most unique and daring fundraising event and we invite you to create a team and join the tradition!

We want your school to take the R-Word Pledge, make the commitment to removing this word from their vocabulary and then take the Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics Oregon athletes!

PLEDGE and PLUNGE is an awareness campaign that educates students and staff about the derogatory use of the word “retard(ed)” and raises awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities through the Polar Plunge.

“I pledge and support the elimination of the derogatory use of the R-word from everyday speech and promote the acceptance and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.”
