Ken Davis Unsung Hero Award
Each year, a special law enforcement volunteer is honored with the Ken Davis Unsung Hero Award. The award is given annually to a member of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) who exemplifies the standard set by the late Ken Davis for community service and dedication to the mission of Special Olympics Oregon.
Congratulations to Officer Brian Frazzini, Salem Police Department! Brian is the recipient of the 2013 Ken Davis Unsung Hero Award. Brian's nomination:
Brian Frazzini is a true unsung hero, and he has been nominated for this award every year since 2008 and has been involved in LETR since at least 2004 (but I’m quite certain for much longer than that). Brian has been the statewide Torch Run Coordinator for the last 8 years (at least). He does a fantastic job ensuring that the Guardians of the Flame have the information they need to relay the torch to summer games. Brian’s efforts have kept a variety of agencies coordinated in running the Torch through its rounds, adapting to the needs of individual communities and departments throughout the State. Brian’s flexibility, persistence, and patience are exceptional.
Beyond the Torch Run, Brian helped get Salem Harley-Davidson involved in the Torch Ride and helped get the ride off the ground. He also does an incredible job of getting Salem Police Department involved and engaged in year-round LETR fundraising activities. He always sells Harley tickets, and he has taken on the planning, organization and execution of the Red Robin and Applebee’s Tip-A-Cops. Salem PD has regularly been in the top 3 agencies who have raised the most money through the Red Robin Tip-A-Cop.
Brian says yes to anything asked of him, and he does it with a smile and a sense of humor. He’s engaged in the Executive Council (when he’s not otherwise detained at bomb training), and always shares his opinions in a respectful and articulate way. He also hands out medals when he’s available, and he attends State Summer Games almost every year. Brian is humble in his work with LETR for SOOR, and he is rarely in the spotlight.
